What this is
When you register a new Company-type Client or Partner, entering the VAT ID (the CUI/CIF fiscal code — the field’s live label is VAT ID) looks up the company in the Romanian public company registry and fills in part of the form for you. This does not run when editing an existing company’s details (section 16.1) — only during company-type registration.
Where it appears
- {tier: enterprise, partner} Registering a company client (section 13.2) — the fiscal code field is on the company registration step.
- {tier: enterprise} Registering a company partner (section 14.2) — the same lookup applies on the partner company form.
What triggers it and what gets filled
Entering the VAT ID (CUI/CIF) triggers a lookup. If the code matches a registered company, the form automatically fills in the company name, address, and trade registry fields. Other fields, such as company representatives, are not affected and must still be filled in by hand.
If the lookup does not succeed
- Invalid or unrecognized code — if the registry has no match, the form switches to manual entry; fill in the company name, address, and trade registry fields yourself.
- Lookup service unreachable — an error message appears, and you must fill in the fields manually.
- The lookup runs in the background without an on-screen loading indicator — allow a moment after entering the code before the fields populate.
